Week 5 - 16 May 2009

Thirroul 6-Blue — 20 vs Port Kembla — 4
Yet another win to our world beating U/6ers on a cold and windy morning, another solid team performance with all the boys continually improving. This weeks Gloria jeans award goes to Toby Couchman for great kicking and team support, the Stocklands Award goes to Jacob Foster for excellent running and tackling. We would also like to wish Toby Couchman (stitches) and Jye Nolan (tonsils) and safe and speedy recovery and be playing football again soon.

Thirroul 6-White — 22 vs Helensburgh — 20
On a very windy day the boys found it hard to control the ball. Giving the opposition alot of time to attack our line. the boys still managed to come away with the win thanks to great yards made by Coen, scott and Bryce. The difference came of a great conversion from Billy of Parkers try who was put into open space of a great pass from Taj. Really strong game from Jai on his first full game back from injury.Keep up the good work boys!
Encouragement Award / Gloria Jeans Coffee: Bryce Sageson for great hit ups Man of the Match / Stockland Spirit Award: Morris Mchugh for a strong game

Thirroul 7-Blue — 44 vs Helensburgh — 0
A fantastic effort by the boys. Our defence was 1st class. Rory Green, Riley Jans, Ben, and Isaac smashed them all game. When we had the ball they could not stop us with Isaac (4 tries) and Ben (3 tries) leading the way. I am very proud of you boys you are improving with every game. Well done Butchers.

Thirroul 7-White — 26 vs Wests Blue — 12
The mighty whites bounced back from last weeks loss to run out convincing winners over the devils. Played in very windy conditions the boys all played very well with Tynan the stand out scoring three tries and making some fantastic cover tackles to take out the man of the match.
Encouragement Award / Gloria Jeans Coffee: Toby Boothroyd Man of the Match / Stockland Spirit Award: Tynan Cropp

Thirroul 8-Blue — 34 vs Wests Blue — 16
Another great result from the 8 Blues with our toughest game of the season so far. Our attack has been awesome, but our defence started to drop off a bit and we had a few sneaky tries scored against us. But a great effort by the boys.
Encouragement Award / Gloria Jeans Coffee: Zac Haider Man of the Match / Stockland Spirit Award: Johnathon Keyes

Thirroul 8-White — 12 vs Wests Red — 20
Another good performance from the boys but we just fell short of the mark going down to a determind West red side 20 to 12 I think if we converted just half of our line breaks into points we would have had a comfortable win but we keep flirting with that side line and are coming up second best

Thirroul 9-Blue — 4 vs Wests Blue — 70
Well boys what can I say about this game? West’s didn’t play to the rules and started subbing players within the first 5 to 10min and their coach ran the water which is also against the rules. But we can’t use this as an excuse. Basically we played like we train. If we’re not willing to train properly and listen to what is being said then this is what happens. Training is about learning the game of rugby league and is where you will develop the skills of the game so when we play those skills will help you on the field. Training isn’t about playing kicking or number games all the time so the sooner we realize this, the sooner we will develop as players.
A big thanks to Drew for playing. Drew had high temp's the night before but still managed to play, Big effort Drew thanks.

A great game of footy from all the boys with the team working hard to put the drills and practice we had been doing at training onto the field...

Some great running play by the backs with the fast players making good ground, good ball movement from our play maker and again a big thankyou to our forwards who are now starting to run straight and hard with in our new moves.

Well done to all who played and it was great to once again experience a home ground win and sing the butchers song together.

Thirroul 10-Butchers — 12 vs Port Kembla — 6
Another close low scoring game so us only do just enough to beat a very strong, physical Port team. In the first half the boys stuck to the game plan and we went to the break leading 12 nil. In the second half we tried to be to fancy and came up with lots of mistakes which we compounded with silly penalties. Still our defense was strong and we only conceded the one try. Well done boys lets train hard this week and continue our winning streak.

Thirroul 10-Blue — 40 vs Dapto — 8
Well, what a difference a week makes! One word can describe the disparity from last week – attitude! Everyone doing their job for the team, and you came away with a superb team result against an opposition equal on paper. The forwards in Jordern, Harrison, Kieren and Sandon hit the ball up hard and making space for our halves to work the ball around. Alex was the first to exploit the spaces out wide and picked up his first try of the year. From there Thirroul dominated in both attack and defence with Michael, Eden, Jarrod and Alex making try savers and keeping Dapto scoreless in the first half. The second half was highlighted with three length of the field tries – the line breaks all made by Owen. One he made the entire distance and the other two he drew the last defender to send both Eden and then Patrick over. Patrick opening this year’s account with a double scoring another after a tenacious chase from a well-weighted Jarrod grubber. Jarrod and Michael also picked up try’s as did our ever-alert dummy-half, Clint with a double. A crowd pleasing, mistake free game in the windy conditions. Well done.

Thirroul 10-White — 28 vs St Pius — 22
Well it was a hard fought win and all the boys played really well. Great defence by all especially, Daniel. Tom did great running and side steppin in attack to get the ball down the field as did Brock, Zack , Josh , Sam and Kyle. A hat trick of tries to Big Sam who played really well. Congrats boys!!!

Thirroul 11-Blue — 26 vs Berkeley — 0
We started well and had the best half structually all year. Our second half was not so great. Curt was great in defence as was Hayd, Coop and AJ. Jay directed our attack well and Luke, Mez and Tommy had some good charges for us. Attittude at training has been great and is showing on the field. Keep it up guys.

Thirroul 11-White — 10 vs Dapto — 18
Well Done Boys, we came away from that game against the team second on the table unlucky not to have won. The forwards did there job well, lead by Brayden Stead who played an enormous game, Lachlan Cauduro showed great control and leadership. The backs played outstanding with Kruz McCauley putting in a great effort, great control in the back line by James Deluca (welcome back) combining with Kyle Squires to put on two great trys. Now we have to do it all again next week and string a few wins together. After Saturdays effort you are more than capable. We look forward to the return of Joel Dunning in a few weeks after being out with a fractured ankle.

Thirroul 12-Blue — 10 vs Helensburgh — 0
A good 10-0 victory for our team against our long time rivals the "Burgh". All the boys played well and it is very hard to single any one out. Reece, Jack Felgate and Blake took the ball forward hard and straight all game. Charlie Scib was outstanding in defence terrorising the bigger burgh forwards. The boys can build on that win now and continue to improve their game.

Moving up in a line and tackling low were our biggest issues this week. Austin (Ozzie) Brooks displayed strong leadership by pulling off some big hits on Berkeleys 2 big guys. Griffin Reh has improved 1000% and hit the ball up well.
Our greatest improvement this week was team-man-ship. We will win a game soon if we focus on tackling.
I do need to thank all the other parents that are assisting, both on the field and in the administration of the team.

Thirroul 13 — 8 vs Wests — 26
Bad luck boys after a terrible week so us take the field with 12 men, which was always going to be a tuff day. Then after 6 minutes or so Ryan got hurt and taken to hosiptal. Which then left us with 11 men and a much harder task ahead. After the shock of seeing Ryan taken away by ambulance I was evident that most of you were upset but to all of your credit you had a go and at one stage I thought we just might get away with it as Wests were struggling against us, Only due to the fact that they had more players than us allowed them to come away with the win. We now have a couple of week to get back on track and focus on the task ahead. We are in need of a couple more players to boost our numbers to cover for injuries and other set backs. Hold you heads up. Good luck to the boys going away next weekend for the rep games.

A scrappy game from start to finish. Good to get the win but we definitely need to improve our effort right across the park if we want to get through to the finals.

Thirroul 15 — 4 vs Collegians — 48
What a shocker!!! In a very spiteful and ugly game we definitely came off the better sports if not the better football team. Hold your heads up boys and lets put this game behind us and get back to the drawing board and move on with a huge effort against Nowra this Saturday at Gibbo.
